First session of workshop on Zarathustra and Fuṣūṣ al-Ḥikam was conducted

The First session of the pre-conference workshop on "Zarathustra in the Mirror of Ibn Arabi's Fuṣūṣ al-Ḥikam" at Iranian Institute of Philosophy was conducted on 17 Aug 2022. Lecturer of this workshop is Dr. Babak Alikhani, Associate Professor of IRIP, Department of Religious Studies.

At this event, Dr. Alikhani first pointed to a nearly 200 years’ background of the occidental scholarship on Zarathustra and the Avesta, the most of which from a religious studies point of view, not from a philological point of view, suffers from insufficiency.

Like Suharawardi’s ikmat al-Ishrāq, Ibn Arabi’s Fuṣūṣ al-Ḥikam including the most advanced theory on ‘prophethood’ can be considered as an important and liable source for discovering and introducing the mysteries of the Avesta.

The abridged version of the Fuṣūṣ al-Ḥikam, named Naqsh al-Fuṣūṣ will be discussed and we will further compare this book with the 17 chapters of Zarathustra’s Gathas in the 14 sessions of this workshop.
